Manager Thomas Frank of Brentford speaks up regarding the rumors linking his goalkeeper, David Raya, to Arsenal. The manager has allowed the potential transfer to happen.
Raya has caught the attention of big clubs during the summer of 2023. Arsenal is not the first club to be associated with the Spanish national team’s goalkeeper. Previously, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Manchester United were also interested in acquiring him. The mission of these three clubs was the same: to find a new first-choice goalkeeper.
As time went on, Tottenham and Manchester United have already secured new goalkeepers. Only Chelsea is still searching, but they are not prioritizing Raya.
Frank explained to the media that Brentford is indeed prepared to sell Raya. The main goalkeeper for The Bees is willing to be released, provided the price is right. The manager also stated that he doesn’t mind which club Raya goes to, even if it’s a fellow London club like Arsenal.
“I hope we get an offer. We are really looking forward to selling him,” he said, as quoted by Evening Standard.
However, the problem arises as selling Raya turns out to be not as easy as Frank initially thought. The asking price set by Brentford is not favored by many potential buyers.
“Raya wants to leave. For us, it’s not a problem. If there’s someone willing to buy him, then they must give an appropriate offer,” Frank stated.
“I initially thought it would be that simple, but it seems quite difficult,” he added.
Arsenal’s decision to pursue Raya may come as a surprise, as they are not like the other three clubs that have lost their first-choice goalkeepers. The Gunners still have Aaron Ramsdale.
According to reports from The Athletic, Arsenal apparently wants to provide Ramsdale with competition for the position of the main goalkeeper. Raya is considered to be able to bring that sense of competition to the team.
