In the opening week of the 2023/24 Premier League season, Arsenal clinched a 2-1 victory against Nottingham Forest on Saturday night (August 12). The winning goals were scored by Eddie Nketiah and Bukayo Saka.
During the match, Mikel Arteta immediately fielded three of his new acquisitions: Kai Havertz, Declan Rice, and Jurrien Timber. For the latter, this marked his English Premier League debut after joining from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2023.
However, his debut was marred by an unfortunate incident. Timber sustained an injury following a collision with Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson towards the end of the first half.
Although he initially continued playing, he was eventually substituted due to the effects of the collision. The Dutch defender played only 50 minutes before being replaced by Takehiro Tomiyasu.
In an effort to prevent undue worry among the supporters, Arsenal’s coach, Mikel Arteta, immediately disclosed Timber’s injury status, albeit noting that further examinations are required.
“All the staff and team doctors have been monitoring Jurrien Timber’s condition, and both they and the player felt that Jurrien could continue playing,” revealed Arteta, as reported by Goal.
Only a few minutes into the second half and after a few movements, we decided to withdraw him. Now, the club’s medical team will have to conduct further examinations,” he added.
Taking to his personal Instagram account on Saturday, Jurrien Timber wrote about the early victory alongside a pair of emojis indicating a quick return.
Arsenal can breathe a sigh of relief as Jurrien Timber has indicated that he is not facing a serious injury.
